Box 66 <br />Crystal Bay, MN 55323-0066 <br />We have noticed that in the past year new retaining walls were constructed along the lakeshore <br />of the property at 650 Big Island that you are one of the owners of. Installation of retaining walls <br />requires a building permit from the City. We are guessing that the work was done by <br />Minnetonka Portable Dredging when they installed the rip rap last winter. While they obtained a <br />permit from the Watershed District this covered only the rip rap. <br />We have old photographs of the property and can see that the portion of the wall northerly of the <br />steps replaced an older wall. But it appears the portion of the wall southerly of the steps is new. <br />New retaining walls on Big Island require a conditional use permit. <br />I am enclosing conditional use permit application. This requires City Council consideration after <br />a Planning· Commission review. Please contact me at 952-249-4623 or etumer@ci.orono.rnn.us <br />if you have any questions about it. We would expect you to file the application before the <br />December 17 deadline for the January 20 Planning Commission meeting. <br />The septic system for this property was to have been replaced by December 31, 2007. There is <br />no permit on file for this work. If the work has been done please have the installer contact the · <br />City. If the work has not been done you should make arrangements to have it done soon so you <br />may use the property next season.
