The NFIP has updated their model or ance <br />recently, and order for someone to be included in the national Flood Insurance Program, e City must <br />adopt floodplain lations by ordinance. Inclusion in the NFIP allows local property o ners to obtain <br />flood insurance, w h may be a requirement of some mortgages. Without insurance, :g perty owners <br />would not be able to r ance their mortgage or purchase a home with a loan. <br />The draft ordinance will rep ce Orono 's existing floodplain regulations and wou incorporate some <br />additional definitions utilized the City but follows the DNR recommended llinance closely. If the <br />Planning Commission recommen approval of the ordinance, it would then e sent to the DNR for their <br />review, followed by City Council re ·ew. <br />Barnhart noted the changes are highlighte <br />2. Les · en asked whether there is any significance to th' highlighting. <br />Barnhart indicated those eas were highlighted so he can discuss those with e DNR so he can have a <br />better understanding the zoning districts. Barnhart stated no changes are be· made to that section . <br />McGrann asked · there is any concern that this will not be completed by Novembe 4 . <br />Barnhart s ted the next step is to forward it on to the DNR.
