O O . <br /> �b. - CITY of ORONO <br /> � � <br /> �,� G'� RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> . . �`9I�ESI��4�' NO. � � � � <br /> RESOLUTION ADOPTING A PLAN FOR <br /> COOPERATION AND COMSINATION <br /> WITH THE CITY OF LONG LAKE . <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Orono, Minnesota, as follows: <br /> Section 1. BACKGROiTND. <br /> 1.01. In the summer of 1999,the City Councils of the Cities of Orono and Long Lake created the <br /> Long Lake - Orono Consolidation Study Committee to examine whether the two eities <br /> should merge. , . <br /> 1.02. On May 25, 2000, the committee adopted its findings and recommendations in favor of <br /> � merger. These were amended by the committee on June 1, 2000. The findings and <br /> recommendations constitute a plan for cooperation and combination under Minn. Stat. Sec. <br /> 46�.82. ' <br /> 1.03. The plan proposes a charter for the new city,to create four wards and a seven-member City <br /> Council. The plan asks the Minnesota Board of Government Innovation and Cooperation <br /> . to �vaive four statutory requirements, including the requirement that a charter commission <br /> be established to prepare the draft charter. <br /> Section 2. COUNCIL ACTION. <br /> 2.01. The City Council adopts the plan for cooperation and combination prepared by the Long <br /> Lake - Orono Consolidation Study Committee, dated May 25, 2000 and amended June 1, <br /> 2000. The plan is incorporated into this resolution by reference. <br /> 2.02. If the Minnesota Board of Government Innovation ancl Cooperation does not approve the <br /> request to waive the formation of a charter commission,the City Council requests that the <br /> chief judge of the Hennepin County District Court immediately appoint a charter commission <br /> to frame a charter for the proposed merged city, to be voted upon at the same time as the <br /> question of inerger. � <br /> • Page 1 of 2 � <br /> 0 <br />
