i� <br /> � O� <br /> • O O <br /> ��b. - C ITY of URONO <br /> � ti <br /> '�' RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> - ��`9.kE p4�'G � NO. 4�� � "�' <br /> SS <br /> A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING <br /> NOVEMBER 11 - 18,2000 TO BE ' <br /> HOUSING WEEK <br /> IN THE CITY OF ORONO <br /> WHEREAS, housing is considered to be affordable if it costs no more than 30% of <br /> household income; and <br /> WHEREAS, the lack of safe, decent, and affordable housing destabilizes the lives of <br /> families and individuals,negatively impacts the health and school performance of children and the <br /> health of elderly, contributes to homelessness; and " <br /> • WHEREAS,family homelessness has increased dramatically throughout Minnesota,women <br /> and children now make up the fastest growing segment of the homeless population,and the Wilder <br /> Research Center reports that state's homeless population doubled between 1991 and 1997; and <br /> WHEREAS,Interfaith Outreach&Community Partners(IOCP)provided approximately 592 <br /> emergency housing assists in 1999 to prevent homelessness; and <br /> WHEREAS, "Housing Week" is a community initiative to raise awareness about local <br /> housing issues,to raise money to address housing needs, and to promote community involvement <br /> and volunteerism. Several congregations,service organizations,youth groups,community residents, <br /> schools, and civic organizations are participating in Housing Week activities; and <br /> WHEREAS, public, private, non-profit partnerships play an essential role in the <br /> development and preservation of affordable housing; and : � <br /> WHEREAS,the City is a participant in the Metropolitan Livable Communities Act; and <br /> WHEREAS,Housing Week coincides with National Hunger and Homelessness Awazeness <br /> Week(November 12 = 18). <br /> S Page 1 of 2 <br />
