N O. � � O � <br /> S <br /> RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A BALLOT QUESTION <br /> ON THE MERGER OF THE CITIES OF LONG LAKE AND ORONO <br /> WI�REAS,in the summer of 1999,the City Councils of the Cities of Orono and Long <br /> Lake created the Long Lake-Orono Consolidation Siudy Committee to examine whether the two cities <br /> should merge; and - <br /> WHEREAS, on May 25, 2000, the committee adopted its fmdings and <br /> recommendations in favor of inerger and on June 1, 2000 the committee amended said fmdings and <br /> recommendations. The findings and recommendations constitute a plan for cooperation and <br /> combination under Minn. Stat. Sec. 465.82.; and <br /> WHEREAS, the plan proposes a charter for the new city, to create four wards and a <br /> seven-member City Council; and <br /> �� WHEREAS,on June 5,2000,the Long Lake City Council and the Orono City Council <br /> unanimously adopted the plan for cooperation and combination prepared by the Long Lake-Orono <br /> Consolidation Study Committee; and <br /> WHEREAS, on June 15, 2000 the Minnesota Board of Government Innovation and <br /> Cooperation approved the plan for cooperation and combination prepared by the Long Lake-Orono <br /> Consolidation Study Committee; and <br /> WHEREAS,it is now appropriate for the citizens of Long Lake and Orono to vote on <br /> the question of inerger of the two communities; <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED,by the City Council of the City of Orono, <br /> Hennepin County, Minnesota that: <br /> 1. The City Clerk of the City of Orono is hereby directed to include on the ballot of the September <br /> 12,2000 State Primary a question regarding the merger of the Cities of Long Lake and Orono; <br /> and <br /> 2. The merger question shall read, "Should the Cities of Long Lake and Orono be combined into <br /> one city to be legally named Orono, effective January 1, 2001, in accordance with "Plan for <br /> Merger and Implementation" dated May 25,2000 which was approved by the city councils of <br /> �" Long Lake and Orono and which includes the adoption of a charter for the new city?" <br />
