Hennepin County Parks letter dated 10/29/86 <br />ISSUE - Begin Council discussion to identify issues related to <br />Hennepin Parks becoming the proposed "Regional Entity" on Lake <br />Minnetonka. <br />DISCUSSION - In Attachment A Hennepin Parks set out 6 dates for <br />discussion in the month of November -�q to the role Hennepin Parks <br />may take, alternatives they may ha,` and what people think of <br />about those alternatives regarding their presence on Lake <br />Minnetonka. <br />As outlined they are basing this on the recommendations of the <br />Metropolitan Council Task Force Report. As you will note they <br />have several meetings over the next 4 months that they will be <br />discussing these issues directly with Lake Minnetonka <br />Conservation District. <br />As you will note this addresses not only the possibility of a <br />public access in zone 5 of the lake but also discusses existing <br />facilities and possible facilities for Big Island, Wild Goose <br />Chase Island and Wawatasso Island. Please note in their <br />presentation Big Island Veterans Camp is discussed and it <br />outlines possibilities in total they can see for that site. In <br />addition to utilize Big Island they are discussing the <br />possibility of a staging area for that use which may be comprised <br />of either new land or possibly existing marinas. Finally as it <br />relates to Big Island it should be noted that they are indicating <br />the City of Orono's support in acqusition of the Veterans Camp. <br />Initial Issue Areas <br />1. Additional Access Site on the Lake (Zone 5). <br />a.) Impact on existing congestion <br />b.) Impact on activity level of other accesses <br />2. Level of Park activity - Big Island. <br />3. Location and size of a "Staging Area" to serve as <br />access to islands. <br />4. Control of Hennepin Parks Lake Minnetonka activity <br />by LMCD/individual cities. <br />5. Intent it Deering Island becomes available. <br />
