YOUNG 1612) 04-326t <br />CAHf <br />i <br />July 31, 1986 <br />Chief Mel Kilbo <br />Orono Police Department <br />PO Box 86 <br />Crystal Bay, MN 55323 <br />Dear Chief Kilbo, <br />On July 29, 1986, our department advised Officer Kurt Erick- <br />son of the Orono Police Department, the description of a <br />watercraft valued at $125,000, that had been stolen <br />from Excelsior Bay sometime during the night. <br />In response to our description, Officer Erickson proceeded <br />to check areas of ,�ur jurisQiction for the boat. While <br />checking the area of Lord Fletchers Restaurant, he observe, <br />the stolen boat in the channel with two suspects in it. <br />Further, they were trying to start the boat. He-approzched <br />them, and,uti_izing communication skills developed through <br />his experience as a police officer, was able to convince <br />the suspects to grab a rope he had thrown to them and pull <br />them to the dock. He then took the suspects into custody <br />and kept them separated until they could be transported to <br />our station. The suspects eventually confessed to the crime. <br />I would like to thank your department, particularly Officer <br />Erickson, for his assistance in the apprehension of the <br />suspects and the recovery of the stolen watercraft.
