72386.1 1-3 <br />�ING <br />TO: Mayor and , .:ounc i 1 d I 1Q r. <br />FROM: Mark Bernhardson, City Administrato�k% v �a <br />DATE: July 23, 1986 <br />SUBJECT: Appointment to Planning Commission vacancy <br />In February of 1986, Council had the opportunity �o meet with <br />three candidates interested in filling the seat m,- - available <br />with the expiration of Bill Sime's three year term. Maureen <br />Bellows, Jim Hanson and Carol Trapp wc._e all advised that only <br />one seat was to be filled, but that because of each applicant's <br />excellent qualifications and background that Council would like <br />to be able to consider the two remaining candidates if there were <br />other vacancies on the Planning Commission at some future date. <br />Both Jim Hanson and Carol Trapp have advised that they are still <br />interested in serving on the Planning Commission. Briefly, Mrs. <br />Trapp is an attorney in private practice and has lived in the <br />City of Orono for over ten years. Mr. Ranson is a local builder <br />who has worked with the City staff for many years. Jim has lived <br />on Dakota Avenue, north shore of Long lake for approximately 10 <br />years. <br />In staff's recommendation with the Bellows' appointment, Mrs. <br />Bellows' architectural background was considered an important <br />asset in consideration of the varied backgrounds of the current <br />membership. Maureen is an active participant providing clear, <br />consistant direction - she has never appeared as a novice. <br />Staff asks once again that you follow the recommendation of staff <br />and appoint Jim Hanson because of his background as a reputable <br />builder in the commUnity and his ability to verbally communicate <br />his ideas or position. <br />PROPOSED MOTION - Move-1 by _ , seconded by , to appoint Jim <br />Hanson to the Planning Commission for the term effective July 29, <br />198A through December 31, 1987.
