STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVES <br />Within this philosophical framework of values, fundamental awareness, and skill <br />development, the Orono intermediate school focuses on specific objectives. These are: <br />The Individual <br />The Orono intermediate school shad endeavor to: <br />a. Continue to develop each child's basic learning skills. These include <br />reading, writing, listening, speaking, and mathematical skills. <br />b. Develop skills in utilizing technology and will utilize various media <br />to inform and gain knowledge. <br />c. Promote the developing and learning of new skills appropriate for the <br />maturity level of the individual learner. <br />d. Assist the individual to recognize the need for and strive for areas <br />of personal growth and development, including a healthy personal <br />self-concept. <br />e. Assist the child to attain the highest level of academic achievement <br />that his/her ability allows. This achievement is promoted by a con- <br />scious effort to individualize instruction. Individual instruction is <br />not a single finite instructional style; it is, rather, the strategy <br />which will allow a student to achieve his/her potential. <br />f. Seek specialized assistance where we believe it will benefit the <br />individual. <br />g. Offer a variety of curricular and co -curricular activiLies designed <br />to provide individual opportunity for self -identification and recognition. <br />h. Encourage the growth of habits and attitudes necessary for good citizenship. <br />i.
