City of Long Lake
P. O. BOX L
LONG LAKE, MINN. 55356
June 17, 1986
Mark Bernhardson
City Administrator
City of Orono
P.O. Box 66
Crystal Bay, Mn 55323
Subjects VanEeckhout Building Corporation Property - 650 North
Brown Road
Dear Mr. Bernhardson,
The subject of VanEeckhout Corp. being allowed to hook up
directly to the Long Lake sewer line was brought up again at the
June 17, 1986 Council Meeting. Mrs. Seibold, and Mrs. Eugene
Roehl appeared at the Council Meeting regarding Long Lake's
decision to deny the request of VanEeckhout Corp. to hook up
directly to the Long Lake sewer line. Mrs. Roehl is purchasing
the property at 650 North Brown Road from VanEeckhout Corp. and
is very anxious to build on the lot.
After much discussion, the City Council voted to approve the
request of the City of Orono and permit VanEeckhout Corp. to hook
up the property at 650 North Brown Road directly to the Long Lake
sewer line. The City of Long Lake will use one of their SAC
Units and will bill the owners Directly for Water and Sewer.
The decision was based on the following findings
The property at 650 North Brown Road has been soil tested and
found to have very poor potential for a standard Septic Systems
poor potential for an alternate mound system for cost reasons and
because of the proximity of the property to Long Lake, a septic
system could pose a substantial environmental and health problem
to the Lake. The Council further finds that the City of Long
Lake is willing to allow adjacent properties in Orono to connect
to its Sanitary Sewer System in appropiate cases. These
applicants have proven financial hardship and hea7.th/
environmental hardship. Compared to the cost of connecting to
the Long Lake ?anitary Sewer, which is readily available, the
coat of a Septic System would be { to 5 times higher. A letter
regarding this decision and these findings is to be a^ to the
City of Orono, VanEeckout Corp., Jeff Stebbins, and Ct_ is c Tana
Roehl.
Should you have any questions, or comments, please feel free to
contact either the Mayor or myself.
Sincere , i /
L.rne Hanson i
City Clerk
cc.
