(23 cm). <br />3-3.4 Every sleeping room. unless it has two doors pro- <br />viding separate ways of escape, or has a door leading di- <br />rectly to the aatside of the building, shall have at least <br />one exterior window which can be opened from the inside <br />without the use of tools to provide a clear oFming of not <br />less than 22 in. (56 cm) in least dimension and 5 square ft <br />(1.5 mt) in area. The bottom sill shall not be rnc.re than 4 <br />It (1.2 m) above the floor. <br />3-3.5• No stove or combustion heater shall be fixated <br />directly under, or immediately at the foot of, stairs or <br />otherwise block escape in case of inafunctioning of the <br />stove or heater. <br />3-3.6• When awning or hopper type windows are used, <br />they shall be hinged or otherwise arranged to allow side <br />brackets to drop and permit the full opening to be used <br />for escape. Where quick -opening devices are provided, <br />they shall be the type easily cpened from the inside for <br />emergency egress. <br />3-3.7 Thew exit requirements apply to all occupied <br />areas, particularly bedrewmms and basement recreation <br />rooms. <br />34• Interior Finish. <br />34.i. Interior finish shall be of the type described in <br />Section 6-2. NFPA 10e, Life Safety Code. <br />3-5+ Roof Coverings. <br />3-5.1 Roof coverings shall be noncombustible or <br />classified as Class C or better as a result of tests and <br />listings by a testing laboratory <br />3-6 Spark Arreaten. <br />3-6.1 Chimneys of homes and cottages in areas particu <br />larly susceptible to ignition from chimney sparks shall be <br />equipped with spark arresters that meet the requirements <br />of NFPA 211, CAtrrineys, Firefilacci, and Vents. Essen <br />tially, the standard requires the following: <br />3-6.1.1 The net free area of the arrester shall be not less <br />than four times the net free area of the outlet of the <br />chimney flue it srrves. <br />3-6.I.2 Arresters shall have a vertical height of not less <br />than 1.3 times the minitnum diameter of the chimney <br />flue or the minimum horizontal dimension of rtotanRul it <br />chimney flue. <br />3-6.1.3 Arresters, including bolts, rivets. screws, and <br />alpppooning members. shall be made of stainless steel <br />(AM A167, "1'ype S16. or AyTM A478, Type 516, or <br />the equivalent). <br />3-6.1.4O tongs shall row permit the passa�+r of <br />sphem having a diameter largethan 14 in.
