Staff Recommendation <br />FILE 07-3323 <br />October 14, 2007 <br />Page 5 of 5 <br />Planning Staff recommends approval of the retaining wall height variance and, if the City <br />Engineer determines the retaining wall within the O -75 foot zoned is necessary for the <br />existing structure, approval of the location and hardcover variances, subject to removal of the <br />31 square foot lakeshore deck in the northeast comer of the property and relocation of the <br />shed out of the Oto 75 foot setback. <br />If the Commission determines granting the variances to allow the additions is appropriate, <br />Planning Staff would recommend the following mitigative measures: <br />1. The exterior of the structure (including the roof) to be darker earth tones with the <br />crawl space enclosed in the same color materials as the upper portion of the structure. <br />2. Large native shrubs to be planted in front of the deck. <br />3. Lakeshore buffer for 75 percent of the shoreline. (This 1s the percentage <br />recommended by DNR). <br />4. Installation of gutters and downspouts with the runoff being directed to rain <br />garden(s).
