1386.3 <br />ATTACHMENT .l <br />CITY OF ORONO <br />REDEVELOPMENT STRATEGY <br />Potential Goals - The following represent potential goals that <br />may be-appro�priatf: for any development or community or <br />redevelopment in Orono. <br />- Improvement of the economic viability of existing <br />commercial retail areas. <br />- Provide for th- overall economic k.expansion it the <br />community result: in improvement of existing areas. <br />- Attraction of desirable business or quasi public - <br />institutions that the City deem,_ desirable. <br />- Improvement in the duality and range of opportunities <br />for housing in the community. <br />STRATEGIES <br />The following represents tie strategy issues that need 'Co be <br />discu.3sed relacing to direction the City will undertake on this <br />issue. <br />A. LEVEL OF I►'IVOLVEMENT - In addition to perhaps an overall goal <br />which _may- clude things such as economic rejuvenation, the <br />following represent the levels of involvement that a community <br />may take gcenertilly or on a project by project basis. <br />1. Catalyst - The City provides the necessary time, <br />leadership and perhaps planning assistance in order that <br />the desired redevelopment happens through strictly <br />private tir.ancing. <br />2. '.Jpgrade Public improvements - The City promotes a <br />face -Yft or an -area through the utilization of selected <br />iu`.lic improvements that will either prompt or dovetail <br />with improvements in the private area. <br />3. Master Area Planning - The City develop a plan to <br />prov��e for an area's-re3evelopment <br />4.
