RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
. kESH04' ' NO. 4 °
 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE IMMEDIATE
CLOSURE OF THE CITY-OWNED PLATTED ALLEY
RIGHT-OF-WAY LOCATED BETWEEN THE PROPERTIES
AT 1998 AND 2000 SHADYWOOD ROAD
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Orono,Minnesota, as follows:
Section 1. BACKGROUND.
1.01. The City of Orono has ownership of a platted alley right-of-way lane located between the
properties at 1998 and 2000 Shadywood Road. The alley right-of-way was platted in 1893, as
part of Shady-Wood Subdivisi`on.
1.02. The alley is 15 feet wide, and is located within three feet of the house at 1998 Shadywood,
and is adjacent to the at-grade deck on the house at 2000 Shadywood.
1.03. The alley is located 300 feet south of the Coffee Channel, which connects Crystal Bay and
West Arm Bay on Lake Minnetonka. This channel is one of the busiest on Lake Minnetonka for
both boat and snowmobile traffic.
1.04. The alley has historically had only limited use.
1.05. In late February of this year, when the Hennepin County Water Patrol closed the Coffee
Channel to snowmobiles due to thin ice,the residents of the 1998 and 2000 Shadywood reported
over 200 snowmobiles using the alley in one weekend.
1.06. The narrowness of the alley, the proximity of the alley to homes, and the high level of
snowmobile traffic on the alley raises significant safety and noise concers.
  .
