. . � r <br /> ��� <br /> � O� � <br /> � O " O <br /> ��b. - CITY of ORONO <br /> � � <br /> �� G'�' RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> ��SH�4� NO. 4 °� ei � <br /> RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE WORK OF THE <br /> JOINT FIRE STATION CONSTRUCTION COMMITTEE <br /> IN THE DESIGN OF THE NEW LONG LAKE FIRE STATION <br /> WfiEREAS,the Orono City Council appointed three representatives to the Joint Fire <br /> Station Construction Committee to oversee the design and construction of a new Long Lake Fire <br /> Station to be located at 340 Willow Drive North; and <br /> WI�REAS,the Joint Fire Station Construction Committee,with the assistance of <br /> qualified consultants, has been meeting regularly over the past four months with representatives <br /> of the Volunteer Fire Department to accomplish its mission of designing and constructing a <br /> quality, cost-effective, functional fire station that ensures the long-term viability of the Long <br /> Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the quality of service it provides in meeting the needs of <br /> communities that it serves; and - <br /> WHEREAS,to accomplish its mission most cost-effectively and to avoid delaying the <br /> � construction of new trunk Highway 12,the Joint Fire Station Construction Committee <br /> established a schedule to allow for advertising for bids in late February,which is generally the <br /> time of year when the best bids are received, and to enable the construction of the new station to <br /> be completed by December 2002; and <br /> WIiEREAS, in holding to this schedule,the Joint Fire Station Construction Committee <br /> presented a schematic design plan for the new fire station to the City Councils of Long Lake, <br /> Orono, and Medina in a joint meeting on November 20, 2001; and <br /> WHEREAS,the cities of Long Lake, Orono, and Medina approved the schematic design <br /> plan for the construction of a 17,329 square foot fire station at an estimated cost of$3,545,080, <br /> including land acquisition; and <br /> WHEREAS, following the advice of its consultants,the cities authorized four add- <br /> alternates (a 6"'bay, a hose tower, an epoxy floor in the bay area, and space within the lounge <br /> area for the Department's 1926 studebaker)to be designed and made a part of the bid package for <br /> .consideration by the City Councils of Long Lake, Orono, and Medina at the time that bids are <br /> received; and <br /> • ^ Page 1 of 2 <br />
