C*s�i� G'ETIN6 <br />TO: Mayor and City Council ,� ]'•11 12`'5 <br />lROM: Mark Bernharson, City Administrator��'6 1J�r`.+' (it r:'•Yi�o <br />DATE: August 7, 1985 <br />SUBJECT: Compensation Studies <br />INTERIM <br />The past few weeks I have been able to do further study regarding <br />interim compensation recommendations and anticipate discussing <br />these changes with you individually as Councilmembers juring the <br />month of August. It is hoped that these will be brought back at <br />either the August 26th or September 9th meeting for discussion. <br />The criteria being used for individual changes in 1985 all fall <br />into three catagories: <br />Supervisors who are making less than their <br />subordinates. <br />Persons who have not received a pay increase for <br />more than a year (including adjustments at the first <br />of the year) and who have been performing at or <br />above the satisfactory level. <br />Persons who's pay in relationship to the pay of <br />others with similar responsibilities in the same <br />area is grossly out of line. <br />Recommendations for individuals for 1985 will not necessarily <br />bring them up to where they will be at after the Comparable Worth <br />Study, however it should make steps in that direction. <br />Additionally as I had earlier indicated that in addition to <br />retroing back to the first of the year that we still have a <br />commitment out of the 85 budget to fund some of the others and I <br />will give an estimate for chose. <br />COMPARABLE WORTH STUDY <br />The progress on the Comparable Worth Study has been proceeding on <br />schedule. A majority of Orono's full-time employees did fill out <br />task listings, an analysis of their individual jobs and these <br />were turned in by July 26th. During the last 2 weeks in July <br />various Department Heads participated in valuations sessions to <br />assess the relative value of various tasks within each of the 6 <br />general job catagories. In August or some time into September we <br />are expecting to get time weighted valuation ratings for each of <br />the jobs for review first by supervisors and then subsequently by <br />the ovetall MAMA umbrella committee. It 1s anticipated that the <br />overall results will still be done in a November -December time <br />frame. <br />Should you havo any further questions please feel free to contact <br />me.
