It was moved, seconded and unanimously <br />carried that the board of directors of the SRA express to <br />Frederick Moc-: the sincere appreciation of the board for <br />his highly devoted and effective efforts as chairman. <br />12. Membership: Mr. Purdue reported that the Chair- <br />man sent letters to councilmembers and managers in ten <br />cities which are not now SRA members. Those cities are <br />Anoka, Coon Rapids, Crystal, New Hope, Cottage Grove, Inver <br />Grove Heights, Eagan, White Bear Lake, Blaine and Stillwater. <br />These contacts should be followed up in the next few weeks. <br />He noted that Mr. Kne from Coon Rapids was in attendance, <br />and he stated that two or three other cities have exprczsel <br />some interest in joining the SRA. The board encouraged him <br />to follow up those contacts. <br />13. Election of Officers: The Chairman called <br />attention to the fact that the office of Vice Chairman is <br />vacant because of the departure of James Spore from Minnesota <br />to Texas. He invited nominations for the position of Vice <br />Chairman. John Greavu was nominated. Upon call for other <br />nominations, there were none, whereupon it was moved by Mr. <br />Sandahl, seconded by Mr. Nawrocki, that Mr. Greavu be elected <br />by unanimous ballot. The motion was carried unanimously and <br />Mr. Greavu was declared elected. <br />14. Executive Committee Vacancy: The Chairman called <br />attention to the fact that the election of Mr. Greavu creates <br />a vacancy in one of the Executive Committee offices. He <br />indicated that, there being no objection, he would defer the <br />filling of this office until the next quarterly meeting of <br />the board. There was no objection and it was so ordered. <br />15. Metropolitan Land Fill Abatement Act: Charles <br />Thomson commented on the "hidden tax" provided in the Metro- <br />politan Land Fill Abatement Act (MS S473.842 - 473.847). He <br />expressed concerns about how the proceeds of the fees pro- <br />vided for in the Act will be spent. He indicated that <br />municipal officials as well as members of the general public <br />should be concerned about the disposition of such proceeds <br />and should insist upon knowinn the uses of such proceeds. <br />Other members of the board expressed similar concerns and <br />the Chairman, acting upon the suggestion of Mr. Anderson, <br />indicated that this matter would be scheduled for the <br />agenda at the next meeting and that an effort would be made <br />to obtain information about the fees and their use, prior to <br />that meeting. <br />
