INTEROFFICE MEMO 85-08 <br />DATE: January 9, 1985 <br />TO: Mayor Butler - Orono Council <br />FROM: Melvin Kilbo, Police Chief <br />SUBJECT: First Negotiation Meeting - Police Dept. and L.E.L.S. <br />On 1-8-85, Mr. Cyrus Smythe, our representative and myself <br />met with L.E.L.S. business agent Phil Finkelstein and <br />Officer Pearson. The union requests for 1985 are as follows: <br />Wages -an increase of 7.5%, effective 1-1-85 <br />Medical -benefits to be increased by $40 per month <br />Dental -a 50% participated dental plan (% employer <br />and 11 employee) <br />Holiday -one more paid holiday (total of 12) <br />Uniform -city to provide cleaning and maintenance <br />for all uniforms <br />'9ie City's offer and position was stated as follows for 1985: <br />wages-5% - This is the prevailing settlement rate in <br />the metro area. <br />Medical -City offers $141.49, an increase to officers <br />of $7.15 per month. <br />Dental -City will authorize single coverage only ($11) <br />if amount is taken out of $141.49 medical payment. <br />Also, all employees must participate in group plan. <br />Holiday -denied, officers already have 11 paid holidays. <br />Uniforms -denied <br />A brief discussion was held and both sides agreed to meet in <br />about one month. It is my belief this can be settled quickly. <br />
