• <br />SECTION 7: HOLDING TANKS <br />A. General <br />Holding tanks shall be considered for replacement systems only <br />if there are no other alternatives and it can be shown that <br />their -installation will eliminate a public health or pollution <br />hazard. <br />B. Construction <br />A holding tank shall be constructed of the same materals and by <br />the same procedures as those specified for watertight septic <br />tanks. , <br />C. Access ' <br />A cleanout pipe of at least six inches diameter shall extend to <br />the ground surface and be provided with seals to prevent odor <br />and to exclude insects and vermin. A manhole of at least 20 <br />inches -least dimension shall extend through the cover to a point' <br />within 12 inches, but no closer 't1tan six inches below finished <br />grade. The manhole cover shall*be covered with at least six <br />inches' of earth. - <br />D. Depth of Bury <br />The tank shall be protected against flotation under high water - <br />table conditions. This shall be achieved by°weight of tank, <br />earth anchors or shallow bury depths. <br />E. Capacity _ .. <br />(1) For a dwelling the size shall be 2,000 gallons or x400 <br />gallons times the number of bedrooms, whichever is' <br />= greatest. <br />(2) For.permanent structures other than dwellings, the <br />capacity shall be based on measured flow rates or <br />estimated flow rates. The tank capacity shall be <br />at least five times the daily flow rate.. <br />F. Location _ <br />Holding tanks shall be located: <br />(1) In an area readily accessible to .the pump truck under <br />' all weather conditions. <br />10 (2) As specified for septic tanks. <br />7:-40 <br />
