Rilbo CITY OF O R O N O <br />SUBJECT: 1984 Police Contract Arbitration Award Details <br />Mr. Joseph Daley, arbitrator for police contract, has rendered <br />his opinion in the dispute. There were seven issues at impass. <br />1. Health Insurance <br />2. Uniform Allowance <br />3. wages <br />4. Vacatio,, <br />5. Sick Leo-.e Accrual <br />6. Severance Pay <br />7. Longevity <br />I will explain each award separately. <br />1. The health insurance award: Mr. Daley awarded the city <br />position of $134.34 per employee per month. The budgeted <br />amount was $145.00 per month per employee for 1984. It is <br />to be noted that the police are now to be aolueted with other <br />city employees. <br />2. Uniform Allowance: The city position was awarded. The city <br />will provide all city required uniform, articles and equip- <br />ment. The city will save money and have offl cars as well or <br />better dressed then previously. <br />3. wages: The officers wages are not to be equated with the <br />arrow group of titles selected by the union, which are the <br />cities around the Lake, but all of Stanton Group 6. Nor is <br />Orono ordered to compete at the top of the group six cities, <br />1t is ranked 11. The compromise award of $2309 which in <br />4.72% 1s close to the budgeted amount for 1984 of 5%. <br />4. vacation: The award continues to the already city established <br />practice of non -interne: comparisons with other Orono city <br />employees. However, with the increase granted, the officers <br />will have little room t, move in the future. Also, the award <br />has no impact 1n the budget for two more years. <br />5. Sick Leave Accrual: The historic city internal comparisons <br />are ordered continued. A good precedent for the city. <br />E. Severence Pay: Again, the historic city internal comparisons <br />are ordered continued. A good precedent for the city. <br />
