SUMMARY <br />The Energy Assistance Program is a federally frnded program <br />designed to help low and moderate Income households meet the <br />rising home heating costs. Durir.g the .983-9.. Program `car, <br />t 'al of 1,652 households were served In the West Hennepin <br />..,ew. This was an increase from t,424 the previous )car t <br />• 15% growth in the program. Of the households earvr4. 32'.! <br />had annual inc, we of less than g : OOD and 58.5% we.e owner <br />occupied. Natural gas and oil consaitxted the primary <br />heating sources providing heating energy to 92.5% of the <br />households. <br />Again, as in previous years, a key ingredient in the pro- <br />vision of this program to the Vest Hennepin community was <br />the 25 volunteers who contributed 900 hours of work. Their <br />work this year was prtw rily to interview applicants and <br />fill out applications.
