Olt <br />Mer <br />OW <br />04200.5.2. Mixing Mortar: Mortar shall be used and placed in final position <br />within 3 hours after mixing where the temperature is 80 degrees F. or less and <br />within 2 hours after mixing if the temperature is over 80 degrees F. Mortars <br />which have stiffened due to evaporation within these times may be reworked to <br />restore workability by adding water and mixing. No retempering will be al- <br />lowed for stiffened mortar from other causes. <br />04200.5.3. Placing Reinforcement: Block reinforcing shall be placed in every <br />other course unless otherwise called for on the plans. All anchors, plates, <br />lintels and other related items shall be properly anchored and grouted into <br />place. Provide solid masonry or solid grouted and reinforced bearing beneath <br />ends of all joists, beams and lintels. Provide 4" masonry bonding at all in- <br />tersections of walls unless shown otherwise on the plans. <br />04200.5.4. Placing Grout: Grout shall be placed by pouring in lifts not ex- <br />ceeding 6 feet in height. It shall be consolidated by puddling or vibrating <br />during placing and reconsolidated after excess moisture has been absorbed, but <br />before plasticity is lost. <br />Special care shall be given to holding reinforcing steel in the proper posi-- <br />tion during the grouting operation for both bond beams and pilasters. <br />04200.5.5. DETAILS: The masonry contractor shall build in properly all an- <br />chozs, ties, plates, joists, beams, lintels, fleshings, inserts and all cor- <br />related items which come in contact with masonry work. All drawings and spec- <br />ifications shall be checked for other branches of work to ascertain proper lo- <br />cations. All openings, frames and work built in connection with the masonry <br />shall be checked and discrepancies reported. Modular sizes are intended <br />wherever possible and all dimensions shall be reviewed prior to setting open- <br />ings. All openings, chases, recesses, and other pertinent details on the me- <br />chanical and electrical layouts shall be provided. <br />Miscellaneous angles for openings are covered under Specification OS500. <br />04200.7. COLD WEATHER PROTECTION: <br />04200.7.1. Preparation: <br />a. If ice or snow has formed on masonry bed, remove by carefully <br />applying heat until top surface is dry to the touch. <br />b. Remove all masonry deemed frozen or damaged. <br />04200.7.2. Products: <br />a. Use dry masonry units. <br />b. Do not use wet or frozen units. <br />04200.7.3. Construction requirements while work is progressing <br />a.
