Dredging of La):e Minnetonka has been of great concern to the City of <br />Orono. <br />We've been unable to find any data supporting a dredging project as a benefit to <br />the general public. We feel dredging is not necessary along shorelines of <br />properties where lake access is not obstructed and lean toward denial of all such <br />proposals unless the riparian property Qwner has lost all means of lake access. <br />The term "maintenance dredging" as used by the D\'R has always been a concern in <br />Orono. <br />We are currently consideving the Stubbs Bay *farina dredging proposal. Ince again <br />we are faced with a problem. lie have found no records indicating any previous <br />dredging, so I would assume the term 'Yointenance dredging" would not apply here. <br />We suggested to Mr. McCleary he consider some alternatives such as onland storage. <br />He was not too happy with this suggestion indicating the cost would be prohibi- <br />co <br />tive. <br />The Orono staff reviews and prepares reports on all proposals before consideration <br />by the Planning Commission and Council. Our staff is somewhat limited, however. <br />1* do lac}, the expertise in fish and wildlife as well as many other natural aspects. <br />Before we do prepare a report, I would appreciate any dita that the various D,\'R <br />experts might be able to provide to include in this report.
