MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD �� 1 <br />OF ORONO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 278 OCT 2 5(Q88 <br />HELD ON OCTOBER 10, 1988 <br />The regular meeting of the School Board of Orono Independent-'School_pistrict No. 1 <br />278 was held on Monday, October 10, 1988. - 1 <br />Present: Dave McKown James Franklin Thomas Mich <br />Don Anderson John Maresh William Fenholt <br />Kitty Crosby Lucie Taylor <br />UPON MOTION by Lucie Taylor, seconded by Jim Franklin, the consent agenda was <br />approved as follows: <br />- approved the minutes of the September 26, 1988 regular meeting; <br />- approved the minutes of th- September 26, 1988 Board workshop; <br />- approved the following variance request: <br />Greg Van Buren, grade 10, to attend Delano Schools; <br />- approved the appointment of Kirsten Peterson as half-time math/reading <br />teacher for the intermediate school; <br />- approved the appointment of Tamara Ejorkedal as a 10 hour a week gifted <br />liaison teacher for the elementary schools; <br />- author zed administration to accept the bid from Bob Ryan Ford in the <br />amount of 514,837 for one handicapped van; <br />- 3pproved the bills as covereJ by vouchers 060704 through 060833 (059972 <br />tnrough 060703 held for manual check ) and 060153 through 060255. <br />Dr. Mich reported that Bill Fenholt and �ucie Taylor would be attending the <br />Orono City Council meeting tonight for final approval of the land purchase; that <br />he appreciated the efforts of students and staff who make homecoming week so <br />successful; that 140 employees contributed nearly $5,000 to the United Way <br />Campaign which is an increase over last year's contributions; that Mike Preble, <br />Schumann Elementary teacher, has been accepted into a "Science Is Elementary" <br />elementary science teacher improvement project which involves his participation <br />in classes every other Monday night from October, 1988 through March, 1989; that <br />October 10 - 14 is Fire Prevention Week and both elementary schools will have a <br />visit from the fire departments; that during the week of October 3 - 7 the <br />ungraded classrooms each spent a day at the old Cahill School in Edina which <br />depicts classes as they were 100 years ago; that on September 29 the Illusion <br />Theatre presented to Schumann Elementary and the Intermediate School their <br />"Touch" program; that Orono Primary School will have the Pacer Puppet Theatre <br />later in the year regarding their personal body safety program; that he will be <br />teaching The Elements of Effective Instruction for faculty beginning on October <br />18 and the Board is we;come to attend; that the MSBA Annual Convention will be <br />held on January 19 - 21, 1989 at the St. Paul Civic Center; that the district is <br />in the process of complying with the compulsory attendance law which requires <br />information from non-public schools as well as from parents who are providing <br />instruction in home schools; that he will be speakir- in the Humanities class at <br />the high school on Friday, October 14; that Don P 9 has placed the order for <br />the two computer labs, one for each of the element schools and they should be <br />in use within six weeks. <br />Dave McKown briefly reported on the TIES Annual Meeting which was held on <br />Wednesday, October 5. <br />
