RARDCOVER ORDINANCE - In 1975,J the OrWAO.City-Council *tfepteo4w ordinance limiting <br />the percentage of lot area that can be covered with impervious surfaces ('hardcover') <br />such as roofs, driveways, sidewalks, etc. on properties located wit'` _:jj feet of <br />a lake. Studies have shown that sediments, ails, and debris carrit . into the lake <br />im highly urbanized areas have a detrimental impact on the quality of water in the <br />�e. The intent of Orono's ordinance is to ensure that rainfall run-off will be <br />cleansed by filtering through grassed or vegetated yard areas before entering the <br />lake. <br />B. HARDCOVER SETBACK ZONES - PERCENTAGE ALLOWED <br />I. 0--751: in the area within 75' of the lakeshore, No Hardcover is allowed <br />(0%). -- -- <br />1I. 75-250': in the portion of the lot located between 75' and 250' from the <br />lake, 250 of that portion of the lot may be hardcovered. <br />III. 250-5001: in the portio of the lot located between 250' and 5001feet <br />from the lake 301 of that portion of the lot may �_-e hardcovered. <br />IV. 500--1,0001: in the portion of the lot located between c�00' and 1,000' feet <br />from the lake 351 of that portion of the lot may be hardcovered. <br />E: These regulations apply even i f you have a lot that does no: abut the lake but is <br />within a lakeshore zoning district. <br />C.
