<br /> <br />PROCLAMATION OF CONSTITUTION WEEK SEPTEMBER 17-23, 2025 <br />“Fairness, Peace, Safety, Well-Being, Freedom, Future” <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States of America was signed on September 17, 1787, <br />establishing the framework of our national government; and <br />WHEREAS, the Constitution divides authority among three branches, legislative, executive, and <br />judicial, to balance power and define the relationship between the federal government, the states, <br />and the people; and <br />WHEREAS, the Preamble outlines the purposes of government: to establish fairness, insure peace, <br />provide for safety, promote well-being, and protect freedom for present and future generations; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Constitution has been amended twenty-seven times to expand and protect the <br />rights of the people, including freedom of expression, the end of slavery, and the right to vote; and <br />WHEREAS, civic organizations nationwide promote Constitution Week to encourage education <br />and awareness of our nation’s founding principles; and <br />WHEREAS, the strength of our communities is supported by informed people and an <br />understanding of our constitutional heritage; and <br />WHEREAS, the city of Orono, through its elected Council and dedicated staff, serves the <br />community by demonstrating the principles of fairness, peace, safety, and freedom for all residents, <br />reflecting the values embodied in the Constitution; and <br />THEREFORE, I, Bob Tunheim, Mayor of the city of Orono, Minnesota do hereby proclaim the <br />week of September 17-23, 2025 as Constitution Week in the city of Orono and encourage all <br />residents to take time to learn about and reflect upon the Constitution and its continuing <br />significance. <br />Given under my hand and the seal of the city of Orono, Minnesota on September 10, 2025. <br />ATTEST: CITY OF ORONO <br /> <br />_________________________ _______________________ <br />Christine Lusian, City Clerk Bob Tunheim, Mayor
