Circle which setback zone (0-75', 75-250', etc.) the calculation is <br />for. <br />2. For each item of hardcover within that zone, enter the length and <br />width, and multiply to get square footage (s.f.). <br />3. Add up a 11 the square footages to get tot a 1 square footage of <br />hardcover. <br />4. Divide by the total area of property within the zone and multiply by <br />100 to get percentage of hardcover in the zone. <br />5. If changes in hardcover are proposed, you should do a "before" <br />worksheet and and "after" worksheet. If either results in percentages <br />greater than those allowed, contact City staff before proceeding with <br />your project planning! <br />HARDCOVER ORDINANCE -In 1975, the Orono City Council adopted an <br />ordinance limiting the percentage of lot area that can be covered with <br />impervious surfaces ("hardcover") such as roofs, driveways, sidewalks, <br />etc. on properties located within 1,000 feet of a lake. Studies have <br />shown that sediments, oils, and debris carried into the lake from <br />highly urbanized areas have a detrimental impact on the quality of <br />water in the lake.
