MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL MEETING HELD MAY 23, 1988 <br />STREET LIGHTING IMPROVEMENT CONTINUED <br />Ed Lehman, 2470 Carman Street stated he did not <br />feel that the installation of street lights was an <br />improvement to his property it was more of an <br />advantage to the traffic on the County Road. <br />John Hollander, 200 Hollander Road asked how much <br />the electricity will cost the City per year. <br />Administrator Bernhardson stated it is estimated to <br />cost about $6,000 per year for the street lighting. <br />David Bye, 1910 Shadywood Road asked what the <br />lights looked like. <br />Administrator Bernhardson stated they are similar <br />to the lights on County Road 110 in Mound, they <br />have their own standard. <br />A gentleman asked what percentage of the total <br />street lighting costs were to be assessed to the <br />property. <br />Administrator Bernhardson stated that approximately <br />75% of the street lighting would be assessed to the <br />property owners, but the sidewalks and other <br />improvements are to be paid for from other funds <br />with no other assessment. <br />Ed Lehman asked what happened to the idea of <br />paying, for this from MSA funds. <br />Administrator Bernhardson stated that the City <br />could choose to take the funds for the <br />streetlighting from MSA but this would not only <br />decrease funds the City would have for the balance <br />of the improvements along County Road 15 but also <br />for MSA streets in other parts of the City. <br />Councilmember Goetten questioned the cost per <br />light east of County Road 19. <br />Lighting Consultant, ,Jim Regan stated that <br />eliminating lights on the east end of the project <br />would not only eliminate the lights but also the <br />wiring costs. <br />It was moved by Mayor Grabek, seconded by <br />Councilmember Sime to accept the street lighting <br />improvement and adopt Resolution t2.141 authorizing <br />Mayor and City Administrator to sign Supplement No. <br />1 to Agreement No. 74-08-87, Hennepin County <br />Project No. 8024. Motion, Ayes 4, Nays 1. <br />Councilmember Peterson voted nay stating she does <br />not feel the abutting property owners should be <br />2 <br />
