ORDINANCE I10. 239 <br /> AN ORDINAPdCE AI�I�IIDII�IG CHAPTER 6 3 OF THE <br /> MUNICIPAL CODE OF ORONO RELATING TO DOG <br /> APdD KENNEL LICENSING <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL OF ORONO ORDAINS: <br /> Section 1. Chapter 63, Section 63. 010 of the Municipal Code <br /> of the City of Orono is hereby amended by repealing the existing <br /> definition of the word "kennel" and by adding the following new <br /> definitions to read as follows : <br /> Kennel, Commercial. A place or premises where three or more <br /> dogs over six months of age are kept or housed at any one time for <br /> commercial purposes including sale, boarding, breeding, grooming, training, <br /> or medical care. <br /> Kennel, Residential. An accessory residential use or place <br /> where three or more dogs over six months of age are kept or housed for <br /> the sole non-commercialuse, benefit or enjoyment of the property owner <br /> or occupant. <br /> Kennel Structure. A dog house or enclosure of any kind including <br /> a fenced pen or dog run constructed, maintained or used for purposes <br /> of keeping, housing or restraining one or more dogs in a limited area. A <br /> fenced-in yard area amounting to 600 square feet or more per dog shall not <br /> be defined as a kennel structure. <br /> Section 2. Chapter 63, Section 63. 020 of the Municipal Code of <br /> the City of Orono is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> 63. 020 Dog License Required. It shall be unlawful for any person to own, <br /> harbor or keep a dog over the age of six months unless a current City <br /> license for such dog has been obtained and the license tag is affixed <br /> and worn by such dog at all times, except as follows: <br /> a) Dogs confined to a City-licensed commercial kennel need <br /> not be individually licensed. <br /> b) Dogs confined to a City-licensed residential kennel shall <br /> be individually licensed but need not wear the license tag <br /> while they are confined in said kennel. <br /> c) Dogs currently licensed by another jurisdiction may be <br /> temporarily kept in the City for a period not to exceed <br /> 30 days provided the dog wears a tag or other identification <br /> from such licensing jurisdiction, and provided that a <br /> current City license is obtained if the temporary stay <br /> extends beyond 30 days or otherwise becomes permanent. Dogs <br /> licensed by other jurisdictions are not exempt from the <br /> kennel licensing requirements or from any other provision <br /> of this Chapter. <br />
