Orono Council Members
April 15, 1988
Page -2-
6. As far as the hard^over issue, we removed more hardcover on the
lake side than there was originally.
We uncovered sidewalks 20 feet on the north side and 30 feet on
the west side (2 X F0 = 100 sq.ft) not originally included in
the hardcover estimate. Our builder set the family room back
2 X 26 = 52 sq.ft.
Our understanding was the 10 ft. addition and the 16 ft.
replacement, would be even with existing lake front structure.
7. The garage hardcover in question is in the extreme northwest
corner of our lot. Because of the lot contour all drainage is
to the street and none drains to the lake. Therefore, there
would be no improvement on ecology with the removal of the
garage.
8. We have spoken to our neighbors and none have voiced an
objection. They too enjoy the privacy the garage gives and can
sympathize with our problem of lake storage.
In Summary.
As we have stated, the hardship to us personally with the lack of
storage is important, but there are other issues to the community
and to the ecology.
1.) The drainage to the street with or without the garage does not
improve the ecology.
2.) The noise barrier to our property and the community is an
important factor.
3.) Privacy to our property will be impaired with removal of this
building.
4.) To enhance the community we will restore the building with
cedar shakes and siding to equal the quality of the remodelled
building.
5.) Improve the lot acceptance of moisture, we will install red
brick set in a sand base driveway and turn around. This will
improve the ecology by accepting moisture and not drain to the
lake.
We thank you for taking the time to consider our request and look
forward to a f>,vorable decision.
Sincerely,
Dale Palm
