4J. <br />1111RICOVBR REGULATIONS AND NORKSHMM <br />4RDCOVER ORDINANCE -- In 1975, the Orono City council adopted an ordinance limiting <br />he percentage of lot area that cai, be covered with impervious surfaces ("hardcover") <br />such as roofs, driveways, Sidewalks, etc. on properties located within 1,000 feet of <br />a lake. Studies have shown that sediments, s,ils, and debris carried into the lake <br />from. highly urbanized areas have a detrimental impact on the quality of water in the <br />lake. The intent of (.-rono's ordirance is to ensure that rainfall run-off will be <br />cleansed by filtering through grassed or vegetated yard areas before Atering the <br />lake. <br />D. HARDCOVER SETBACK ZONES - PERCENTAGE ALLOWED <br />I. 0-75't in the area with,:: 75' of the lakeshore, No Hardcover is allowed <br />(01). <br />II. 75-250': in the portion of the lot located between 75' and250' from the <br />lake, 251 of that portion of tie lot may be hardcovered. <br />1II. 250-5001: in the portion of the lot located between 250' and 500' feet <br />from the lake 101 of that port.�on of the lot may be hardcovered. <br />IV. 500-1,000': in the portion of the lot located between 500' and 1,000' feet <br />from the lake 35• of that portion of the lot may be hardcovered. <br />NOTE: These regulations apply ever if you have a lot that does not abut the lake but is <br />within a lakeshore zoning district. <br />i.
