Lucie Taylor informed the Board that through her involvement with Leadership <br />Minneapolis, which is a part of the Chamber of Commerce, Or. Mich has volun- <br />teered to be the day advisor for Education Day which is part of a course pro- <br />vided by this group. <br />Don Anderson requested that a notice be placed in the Newsletter regarding the <br />the Parent Meet & Confer committee with a listing of committee members and their <br />telephone numbers. <br />Dan Martin, community member, requested to be placed on the agenda regarding the <br />Environmental Task Force. <br />Or. Mich updated the Board regarding long-range planning. He stated that he is <br />in the process of writing a staff development plan which is an outgrowth of the <br />recommendations the Board approved in December. Dr. Mich also shared with the <br />Board a sample of the work that was sent in with regard to curriculum iden- <br />tification and provided information as to the process that will be followed in <br />reviewing courses/curriculum. He stated that the Facility Committee continues <br />to study the district's needs with Board discussion/input through workshop <br />sessions. <br />Kitty Crosby MOVED, Don Anderson seconder, that the Board of Education approve <br />the proposed school district policy on AIDS. <br />Discussion ensued regarding specific aspects of the policy, mainly for clarifi- <br />cation purposes. Concern was expressed regarding Item I, section C of the <br />policy which reads, "The school nurse will be responsible for monitoring the <br />employee'! medical status thruugh regular contact with the employee's doctor." <br />Dr. Mich stated that confidentiality regarding the school nurse is not the con- <br />cern, but the way the sentence is written, it would appear that the school nurse <br />is the decision maker. <br />Kitty Crosby MOVED, Lucie Taylor seconded to amend the motion on the school <br />district policy on AIDS, Item I, section i. to reaa: "The superintendent or his <br />designee will be responsible for monitoring the employee's medical status <br />through regular contact with the employee's doctor." <br />The question was called on the amendment to the motion. Carried unanimously. <br />The question was called on the motion as amended.
