� <br /> k ` City of ORONO <br /> RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> • <br /> NO. ��7�T <br /> • - • • <br /> OPPOSING LOCATION OF A SEWAGE SLUDGE <br /> DISPOSAL SITE IN THE CITY OF MINNETRISTA <br /> WHEREAS , the City of Orono and its citizens are totally <br /> concerned with preservation and protection of the water quality of <br /> L�:'ce Minnetonka, and <br /> WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council has identified a potential <br /> sewage sludge disposal site within the Lake Minnetonka watershed, which <br /> site is identified as #29 in the City of Minnetrista , and <br /> WHEREAS, said site #29 is located in an area of seasonally high <br /> water tables adjacent to six mile creek which flows directly into Lake <br /> Minnetonka, and <br /> WHEREAS, said site #29 is. located in an area zoned and used for <br /> productive commercial aggricultural purposes, and <br /> WHEREAS, development and use of potential sludge site #29 would <br /> • likely have direct adverse effect upon the water quality and ecology of <br /> Lake Minnetonka , and <br /> 6aHEREAS , citizens and taxpayers in the Lake Minnetonka <br /> watershed, and in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area, have spent untold <br /> millions of dollars to install sewer int�rcepters to remove sewage <br /> effluent from the watershed pursuant to the 1968 PCA mandate, which <br /> investment would be wasted if the same sewage effluent were to be <br /> piped out, processed, and then trucked back into the watershed as <br /> sludge where it wculd once again pose an environmental threat to <br /> the Lake. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the <br /> City of Orono hereby proclaims its opposition to location and use of <br /> proposed sludge disposal site #29 in the City of Minnetrista . Location <br /> or use of any sewage sludge disposal site within the Lake Minnetonka <br /> watershed, and particularly this site, would be contrary to the policies <br /> and objectives of the City of Orono, the City of Minnetrista, the Minn�haha <br /> Creek Watershed District & the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District. <br /> Adopted by the City Council of the City of Orono on this 8th day of <br /> June 1981 . <br /> � � �� � � •� _ • <br /> William B, an Nest , ayor <br /> ATTEST: <br /> Mary S, oytcke , De ty City Clerk <br />
