Minutes <br />Park Commission Regular Meeting <br />Tuesday, May 6, 2025, 6:00 PM <br />City Council Chambers 2780 Kelley Parkway, Orono, MN 55356 <br />Chair Roath called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. He welcomed <br />the new members of the Park Commission. <br />ROLL CALL <br />The Orono Park Commission members present: Chair Brian Roath, Commissioners Janie Delaney, Kim <br />Carswell, Michael Huddy, Mollie Reynolds, Jacob Selseth, and Gordy Stofer. <br />Also present: City Council Park liaison Alisa Benson. <br />Staff present: Park Superintendent Joe Ruthenberg <br />APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA <br />Carswell moved, Selseth seconded, to approve the agenda for the Park Commission meeting as <br />submitted. VOTE: Ayes 7, Nays 0. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />1. February 24, 2025 Park Commission meeting minutes <br />Huddy moved, Stofer seconded, to approve the minutes of the February 4, 2025 Park Commission <br />meeting as submitted. VOTE: Ayes 7, Nays 0. <br />PUBLIC COMMENT <br />None <br />PRESENTATION <br />2. Tree Inventory Analysis and Maintenance Strategy <br />Park Superintendent Ruthenberg outlined the tree inventory of the City's trees and the benefits of having <br />such an inventory of tree health going forward. <br />Park Commissioners asked questions about the inventory and how it will be used. <br />Ruthenberg also gave an update on staff activities gearing up for summer including at parks and the <br />Orono Golf Course, an Eagle Scout project that will benefit Lurton Dog Park and the status of the dock at <br />Big Island. <br />STAFF REPORT <br />Mayor's Monarch Pledge <br />Ruthenberg and Councilmember Alisa Benson explained the Mayor's Monarch Pledge Program for which <br />the City has applied. It will involve communications to residents on ways to support the Monarch Butterly <br />population by planting milkweed and other plants that support Monarchs; engaging with gardening <br />groups, and educating City staff on thoughtful mowing practices and use of chemicals. <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />3 <br />
