RD. 116 IN THE CITIES OF ORONO AND�C/a ii�� <br />hiMEAS, the extension of County Road 116 has been on the City of s C <br />rehensive Plan for many years, and <br />WHOF:,S, the construction of County Road 116 will greatly enhance the City of <br />Medina's emergency response capabilities, and <br />WHEREAS. the county's road standards are better than those of the City of Medina Is, <br />thus providing for better traffic and recreation routes, and <br />NTMEAS, the maintenance of some existing City of Medina roads vill be taken over <br />by the county, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Medina is under 5,000 population and does not qualify for <br />Minnesota State Aid Roads, and <br />WHEREAS, the construction of County Road 116 will cost $2.9 million, which is more <br />than the City of Medina can afford, and <br />WFWEAS,the City of Orono as well as all cities of the City of Medina's size have <br />more county roads than the City of K--,ina, and <br />WHEREAS, with this resolution the City of Medina reaffirms its commit -rent to the <br />construction of County Road 116, and <br />WHEREAS, Hennepin County has placed the extension of County Road 116 on it's loom <br />road construction plan, <br />W(VREAS, County Road '.+o will end at the City of Orono border if the City of Orono <br />does not permit it tc extend further south, and <br />:NTWEAS, traffic will probably increase on the City of Orono streets, and at the <br />intersection of Willow Drive and Highway 12, and <br />:4FTERFAS, the City of Medina will support the City of Orono in obtaining a stop light <br />it Willow Drive and Highway 12 if the City of Orono permits County Road 116 to extend <br />�o Highway 12, and <br />'i'MMEAS, the e.-tensior, of Courty Road 116 is good for the City of Orono for the sauna <br />:easons as it is for the city of Medina. now <br />­70EFORE HE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of Medina goes on record recommending <br />hat the City of Orono allow County Road 116 to extend to U.S. Highway 12. <br />'_optea `nv ►? -_�J..Icil of the City of Medina <br />Clerk -Treasurer + <br />this of �%i'�1 89. <br />/%• -j#�� <br />
