S-P TESTING, INC.
951 KATYDID LANE
ST. MICHAEL, MN 56376
4074M
STEVE SHIRMERS
November 4, 1987
Dave Woodword
888 Dakota Ave.
Orono, Henn. Co., MN
This sy----em is designed for a Type 1, four bedroom home and in accordance
with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency standards WPC 40 and local
ordinances.
The soils on this site are typical of -EAB - Erin loam but are SCS soils
mapped - HbC - Hayden loam. This site has an existing failing system due
to strong clay soils -and a high seasonally high water table located at 18"
to 24", (mottling). Space available for installing a new septic system is
limited, to design a new system to meet state & city codes is not possible.
The soils at a depth of'18" have a percolation rate averaging 46.2 min/inch
and are adequate for treating septic effluent.
One method to treat septic effluent would be to install holding tanks, (2 -
1000 gallon capacity) with a warning device indicating when it is time to
pump the tanks. The other method would be to install a shallow bed system
18" deep in the higher ground located in the southeast property corner.
With the average percolation rate of 46.2 min/inch, recommend to over ex-
cavate to a depth of 24" & replace with a clean sand (coarse washed sand)
The rock will need a minimum of 6" of cover. A pumping chamber will need
to be installed to lift the effluent to the treatment area. Recommend to
pressurize this system typical of a mound system using 1-1/2" dia. distri-
bution pipe with 1/4" perforation W" apart. Also recommend a holding tank
be installed to catch overflow from the system if the system has seepage
occuring during the wet seasons,. spring & fall. U<<n- tAfs U se';' 61-it, S tiSrrvu.
p5 AAJ ove-e_FLOw ?)
Tt.e power supply and switches must be located outside the manhole and
pumping chamber in a weather proof enclosure. A warning device must be
installed with a light and sound device, this is'in case of a pump failure.
(Mercury floats are a good method)..
The existing tank may be'used upon approval by the local inspector.
All neighboring wells are located more than 75' away from the proposed
treatment area and 50' away on this site.
Keep all heavy equipment off of the proposed treatment area before and
after construction as much as possible. The treatment area Lhould be
marked off before construction.
With proper installation and maintenance, this system should have no
Self and Perrolstbw Testa ( CONT' D )
Septic System Ihmign
