,y PETITION - COUNTY RD. 146 (BROWN RD. ) DETOUR
. On April 2, 1979, County Rd. 15 will be closed from Cty Rd. 51 to Wayzata for
rebuilding the Tanager Lake Bridge and installation of a sewer interceptor line.
• Construction is scheduled to last for 45 working days or about 10 weeks. During
this period, traffic from 15 will be rerouted along county road 146 (Brown Road)
thru Orono and Long Lake to State Highway 12.
Traffic on Brown Road will be increased from 1 ,000 cars per day to 11 ,000 cars
per day! This will turn an already hazardous road into an extremely dangerous
one, jeopardizing the lives of children and pets , and creating difficult access.
This 2 mile stretch of road (Brown Road from 51 to Watertown Road) has no
significant turns and no stop signs which has created a speedway with speeds
often exceeding 60 mph in 40 mph zone.
We, the undersigned, live on or near Brown Road (146) and have our only or our
primary access onto South Brown Road. In order to reduce this threat to our
health, safety, and welfare, we are petitioning the City of Orono and the
County of Hennepin to:
1 . Have a police patrol car on duty during the morning and evening rush
hours (6:30 am to 8:30 am and 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm) assigned exclusively
to patrol the section of County Road 146 from County Road 51 to Highway
12 to enforce the speed and other traffic laws during the period of
the detour.
2. Install a 4 way stop sign at 146 and Fox Street to slow down the
traffic flow during the period of this detour. To be effective,
the signs must be installed before April 2, 1979
•
Some of us have already had pets and children hit by cars on Brown Road under
normal traffic conditions as indicated below.
