Date: June 16, 2025 Item: 5.2 <br />Presenter: Matt Karney, Planner <br />Section: Public Hearings <br /> <br />Title: LA25-000014, Revisions to City Code regarding the Keeping of Animals in <br />Residential Districts (Matthew Karney) <br /> <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />The City of Orono is proposing a text amendment to the City Code regarding the keeping of <br />animals in residential districts. <br />2.Background: <br />On April 21, 2025, and May 19th, 2025 Staff presented research into potential text amendments <br />for the keeping of animals for the Planning Commission to discuss. The Planning Commission <br />provided Staff direction to draft proposed regulations to clarify the animal definitions and consider <br />allowing chickens on smaller lots throughout the city. <br /> <br />Included in this packet for your review, staff provided a formal text amendment for consideration <br />(attached as Exhibit B), that includes redlined changes to the Zoning Regulations. Planning <br />Commission should review the drafted language and provide feedback before moving forward to <br />the City Council. <br />3.Public Comment: <br />No public comments have been received. <br />4.Staff Recommendation: <br />Planning Staff recommends approval of the text amendment as drafted. <br />5.Planning Commission Action Requested: <br />The Planning Commission should consider one of the following motions: <br />1. Make a Motion to approve the proposed text amendment. <br />2. Table the amendment after providing direction to staff regarding changes or additional <br />research. <br />3.
