11 <br />These figures are derived from the Minneapolis code, which outside of <br />the city’s downtown area requires one parking space per 300 square feet of <br />gross floor area in excess of 4,000 square feet for retail and office buildings. <br />It also requires parking equal to 30 percent of the capacity of persons in the <br />public area of restaurants, where the capacity of persons is based on the <br />building code allowance of one person per 15 square feet of area. In other <br />words, the code would require that the three uses have a total of 47 park- <br />ing spaces without a shared parking arrangement. I have not factored in <br />other allowed parking reductions (e.g., providing bicycle parking or an <br />on-site transit shelter). <br />The greatest sum shown in Table 2 is 41, which becomes the overall park- <br />ing requirement for the three uses.
