PAGE 2

FLORISTIC QUALITY ASSESSMENT
Floristic Quality Assessment (FQA) is a tool used by government agencies and conservation organizations to
analyze the ecological value of an area based on its plant species composition. First introduced in the 1970s, it is
based on the fact that some plants are not particular about where they grow (for instance, they might thrive in
roadside ditches) while other species only grow in specialized habitats. In general, an increased presence of these
specialized species means that an area is less ecologically degraded.
Generally, 1-19 indicates low vegetative quality; 20-35 indicates high vegetative quality and above 35 indicates
“Natural Area” quality.

23
24
25
26
27
28
29
30
2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024
Floristic Quality
72
