� °� �. <br /> o � o � <br /> • 1 � CITY of ORONO <br /> � - ; F <br /> �',�� � �G'�' RESOLUTION OF THE CITY�COUNCIL . <br /> �kESirI�4 NO. � � � <br /> A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING <br /> NATIONAL MARINA DAY 2004 <br /> WHEREAS, we, the citizens of Lake Minnetonka, place a high value on our <br /> recreation time and our ability to access one of America's greatest natural resources, its <br /> waterways; and <br /> WHEREAS, in 1928, the word "marina" was used for the very first time by the <br /> National Association of Engine and Boat Manufacturers to define a recreational boating facility; � <br /> � and <br /> WHEREAS, Lake Minnetonka is home to several recreational boating facilities <br /> that contribute substantially to their corrununities by providing a safe, reliable gateway to boating <br /> for members of the community and welcomed guests; and <br /> • WHEREAS, Lalce Minnetonka's marinas also serve as stewards of the <br /> erivironment, actively seelcing to protect the surrounding vvaterways not only for the enjoyment <br /> of this generation,but for generations to come; and <br /> WIiEREAS, Lake Minnetonka's marinas also provide their communities and <br /> visitors to the State of Minnesota a place where friends and families, united by a passion for the <br /> water, can come together for recreation,rest and relation; and <br /> WHEREAS, Lake Minnetonlca's marinas provide an environmentally friendly <br /> gateway to boating for the citizens of and the visitors to the State of Minnesota. <br /> � NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Orono City Council that <br /> August 14, 2004 be designated the first annual National Marina Day in order to honor Lake <br /> Minnetonka's marinas for their contributions to the community and to make citizens, policy <br /> makers and employees more aware of the overall contributions to their well-being; and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT our city, the City of Orono,joins hands <br /> with other Lake Minnetonka cities and thousands of waterfront communities all across the <br /> United States in celebrating this day, and does hereby proclaim Saturday, August 14, 2004 as <br /> "NATIONAL MARINA DAY" in the City of Orono,Minnesota. <br /> Adopted at a regular City Council meeting held August 9,2004. <br /> • ATTEST: . <br /> _ f � <br /> Linda S.Vee, City Clerk Barbara A.
