RESOLUTION # 557
• A RESOLUTION FOR THE USE OF M.S.A. FUNDS
TO PURCHASE RIGHT-OF-WAY FOR PROPOSED RING ROUTE
WHEREAS, County Highway 15 from Mound to Orono is becoming
heavily traveled, and traffic is creating a burden on the lake area
residents, and
WHEREAS, the upgrading of Couty Road 15 and its present
right-of-way is an unacceptable solution to this problem, and
WHEREAS, the construction of a ring route around the
northwestern area of Lake Minnetonka is an integral part of Orono's
comprehensive plan, and
WHEREAS, such ring route would relieve the traffic on
County Highway 15 by moving it northwest and away from the lake,
and
WHEREAS, studies jointly by Hennepin County and the City
of Orono have shown that such a ring route could reduce the amount
of thru traffic through the City of Orono, Minnetonka Beach, and
other lake front communities, and would generally enhance the
traffic moving in the entire northwestern Lake Minnetonka area.
• NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City
of Orono does hereby commit its portion of Municipal State Aid Funds
for 1972, 73, and 74 as far as are necessary for the purchase of
fig.ht-of-way for the proposed ring route so that the Hennepin County
hway Department can proceed with the development of this urgently
ded facility. It is intended that these funds would be used
lusively for this purpose.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Orono, Minnesota at a
regular meeting held September 24, 1974.
Robert L. Searles, Mayor
Attest:x -
er R. Benton, Clerk-Admlhistrator
0
