Orono residents were asked a short series of questions about transportation issues. Commuter <br />patterns were ascertained. The use of public transportation was discussed next. The ease of <br />getting from place to place in the community was evaluated. The expansion of automobile traffic <br />corridors within the community was examined. Finally, the construction of an expanded park - <br />and -ride lot in Navarre and funding lobbying efforts to establish a light rail corridor to <br />Downtown were reviewed. <br />Location to Work <br />Respondents were asked: <br />Do you work in Orono, commute outside the city limit, <br />or are you not currently working or retired? <br />Forty-nine percent "commute outside of the city limits" to work: <br />WORK IN ORONO................................. 17% <br />COMMUTE OUTSIDE .............................. 49% <br />NOT CURRENTLY WORKING ....................... 9% <br />RETIRED ......................................... 25% <br />DON'T KNOW/REFUSED ............................ 1% <br />Twenty-five percent are "retired" and 17% "work in Orono." <br />"Work in Orono" is cited more often by: <br />• those contacting City Hall <br />• households with children <br />• eighteen to forty-four year olds <br />• Precinct One residents <br />"Commute outside" is mentioned more frequently by: <br />• residents for less than ten years <br />• households with children <br />• eighteen to fifty-four year olds <br />"Not currently working" is posted at a higher rate by: <br />• residents for less than ten years <br />• those connected to city water <br />• women <br />95 <br />
