Local Trails and Sidewalks <br />Residents were asked: <br />How important is it for your household to have a system <br />of local trails or sidewalks that connect your neighbor- <br />hood to a regional recreation trail, such as the Luce <br />Line Trail or the planned Dakota Rail Trail -- very <br />important, somewhat important, not too important, or <br />not at all important? <br />Forty-eight percent consider a system of local trails to be "important:" <br />VERY IMPORTANT ............................... 22% <br />SOMEWHAT IMPORTANT ......................... 26% <br />NOT TOO IMPORTANT ............................ 30% <br />NOT AT ALL IMPORTANT ......................... 21% <br />DON'T KNOW/REFUSED ............................ 2% <br />But, 5 1 % feel it is "not important." <br />"Important" is cited more often by: <br />• those contacting City Hall <br />• those very informed about city government and its activities <br />• those somewhat informed about city government and its activities <br />• households with children <br />• Precinct Two residents <br />"Not important" is indicated at a higher rate by: <br />• residents for twenty years or more <br />• those not contacting City Hall <br />• those not too or not at all informed about city government and its activities <br />• "empty -nesters" <br />• over fifty-five year olds <br />Next, Orono residents were asked: <br />Does your neighborhood have sidewalks? Do you sup- <br />port or oppose the construction of sidewalks in your <br />neighborhood? <br />Seventy-four percent do not have sidewalks and oppose their construction in their neighborhood: <br />YES............................................ 0 o <br />a <br />
