There were no statistically significant differences between the findings of this survey
and the census data. And, throughout the course of this study, subgroup differences will be
discussed.
Residential Longevity
Respondents were asked:
Approximately how many years have you lived in the City
of Orono?
The typical adult resident lived in the community for 15.7 years:
LESS THAN TWO YEARS ........................... 4%
TWO TO FIVE PEARS ............................. 11%
SIX TO TEN YEARS ............................... 21%
11 TO 20 YEARS .................................. 29%
21 TO 30 YEARS .................................. 21%
OVER THIRTY YEARS ............................. 15%
DON'T KNOW/REFUSED ............................ 0%
Fifteen percent are city residents for five years or less, while the same percentage is long-term
residents for over thirty years.
"Less than two years" is posted at a higher rate by:
• those contacting City Hall
"Two to five years" indicated more often by:
• households with children
• owners of residences on less than one acre
• those connected to city sewer
• eighteen to forty-four year olds
• Precinct Four residents
"Six to ten years" is stated more frequently by:
• households with children
7
