Orono residents were asked a series of questions about environmental concerns. First, the <br />importance of Orono as a leader in Lake Minnetonka environmental causes was discussed. Then, <br />local environmental concerns were rated on their levels of seriousness. Next, a mandated buffer <br />zone on the lakeshore was raised. Sustainability was discussed in depth. Finally, forested areas <br />and invasive exotic plant species rounded out the topics of concern.. <br />Leader in Lake <br />Minnetonka Environmental <br />Causes <br />Respondents were queried: <br />How important is it to you for the City of Orono to he <br />a leader in Lake Minnetonka environmental causes -- <br />very important, somewhat important, not too import- <br />ant, or not at all important? <br />Ninety-three percent consider the City's leadership to be "important:" <br />VERY IMPORTANT ............................... 46% <br />SOMEWHAT IMPORTANT ......................... 47% <br />NOT TOO IMPORTANT ............................. 4% <br />NOT AT ALL IMPORTANT .......................... 3% <br />DON'T KNOW/REFUSED ............................ 1% <br />In fact, 46% see it as "very important." <br />"Important" is stated more often by: <br />• owners of homes valued between $600,000 and $1 million <br />• forty-five to fifty-four year olds <br />"Not important" is cited more frequently by: <br />• those not too or not at all informed about city government and its activities <br />• owners of homes valued over $1 million <br />• those with septic tanks <br />• over fifty-five year olds <br />53 <br />
