Guidance at a Glance <br />Upcoming Test Dates: <br />ACT: Decembers, 1990 Registration Deadline 11/9/90 <br />SAT; Januarv’26,1991 Registration Deadline 1-/'21 ,'90 <br />Juniors arc reminded to obtain a Social Security <br />number as soon as possible it thev don t already have one. <br />The number is requested on many college applications, <br />admissions tests, and financial aid forms. <br />Financial Aid <br />On Monday, December 3 there will be a meeting for all <br />senior parents to discuss the financial aid form. Because of <br />the necessity of filling out this form for Guaranteed <br />Student Loans, the meeting is of general interest. Gary <br />Ness, Financial Aid Officer at .Normandalc Community <br />College will present this material. The meeting will bo <br />held in the high school choir room at 7;00 p.m. While this <br />meeting is planned essentially for senior parents, any <br />junior parents who want to start planning are welcome to <br />attend. Other financial aid topics will also be discussed. <br />Senior Planning Conferences <br />The high school counselors have begun to conduct <br />senior planning interviews with students and parents. <br />Each senior family received a letter inviting parents to <br />participate. The purpose is to help students and parents in <br />the process of post-secondary- educational and/or work <br />planning. We hope to provide appropnatc and up-to-date <br />information that will help with these plans. Evening <br />hours are available to accommodate those who cannot <br />attend during the day. Wvember 10, 1^^^^), from 8:30 a m <br />to 4;lK) p m. <br />The conference, which is sponsored by Intermediate <br />District 287/HTC, will be held at Hennepin Technical <br />College, Eden Praine Campus, 9200 Flying Cloud Dr., Eden <br />Prairie, M.\. <br />The goals ot the con tort.,ce are to develop an <br />awareness of non-traditional career opportunities for <br />women and to increase young women s interest in <br />mathematics and science <br />Highlights include lane Curry’s solo performance - <br />'Samantha Rastles' the Woman Question", music featuring <br />Prudence Johnson with several p'-omincnt women <br />musicians, exploratorv math and science activity <br />workshops and career int<'rmation sessions and di: ays. <br />.Nearly ninety career women who have pursued careers <br />in ’ olving mathematics and science expertise or arc in non- <br />traditional careers have volunteered to lead workshops <br />and discussion groups. <br />Teachers and counselors are encouraged to attend the <br />conference. Spc'cial workshops planned for adults include: <br />Personal Safety for Women, Balancing Career and Family, <br />Financial Planning fc'r College and Future Careers for <br />Women. <br />For information and reuistration forms, contact school <br />counselors and math and science teachers or call 550-7154, <br />Career Education K-12 Services. A $10 single rate or a $25 <br />family rate registration lee covers the cost ot lunch and <br />materials. Early registration is suggested. <br />Spartan Parents <br />The next scheduled meeting for the Spartan Parents is <br />Wednesday, November 14th at 7:00 pm. They arc available in the Guidance Office to <br />visit with parents and students. We will publish in this <br />newsletter each month a schedule for the upcoming 30 <br />davs. Students are also notified by a College Rep Bulletin <br />Board at the high school.
