Is' <br />Approved by the Orono Board of Education - October 8, 1990 <br />MISSION STATEMENT <br />The Board of Education of School District 278 recognizes its responsibilities to <br />the residents of the communities served and acknowledges the continuing support <br />of its citizens. The most fundamental of these responsibilities mandates the <br />development and implementation of a sound educational program which promotes <br />Intellectual curiosity and assists each student to reach his/her potential. As <br />such, the educational program is designed to meet the needs of individual stu­ <br />dents through a curriculum program of studies based on the instructional goals <br />of the District. The curriculum is implemented by each teacher's selection and <br />use of sound methods of instruction. <br />The Board of Education also recognizes the educational benefits of an effective <br />program of cocurricular activities for students. <br />The Board of Education promotes the availability of self-development oppor­ <br />tunities for all residents through a program of Community Education. <br />The Board of Education is dedicated to the continued growth and learning for all <br />who serve district students: including staff members, teachers, administrators, <br />and members of the Board of Education. <br />Revised 10/8/90
