MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD <br />OF ORONO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 278 <br />HELD ON OCTOBER 8. 1990 <br />OCT 2 4 19^0 <br />The regular meeting of the School Board of Orono Independent School District No. <br />278 was held on Monday, October 8, 1990 <br />Present: Dave McKown <br />Lucie Taylor <br />James Franklin <br />Peg Swanson <br />Thomas Mich <br />William Fenholt <br />Absent: Don Anderson <br />John Maresh <br />UPON MOTION by Lucie Taylor, seconded by Jim Franklin, the consent agenda was <br />approved as follows: <br />- approved the minutes of the September 24, 1990 regular meeting; <br />- approved the appointment of Jane Hanson as a short hour cook at Orono <br />Primary School; <br />- approved the appointment of Marjo Wirtjes as a short hour co<^k At Schumann <br />Elementary School; <br />- approved the appointment of Phyllis Simon as a special educati ’ . apro- <br />fesslonal at Orono Primary School; <br />- approved the bills as covered by vouchers 067397 through 067621. <br />Motion carried unanimously. <br />Or. Mich reported that the Oktoberfest held on October 6 was a great success and <br />that he wanted to express appreciation to Jim and Penny Grabek for chairing the <br />event, to Paul Magers and Paul Douglas for their participation, to Ron Gilbert <br />and the Orono staff for their contributions; that on October 8 and 9 and again <br />on October 10 and 11, the Elements of Effective Instruction workshop is being <br />held at Trinity Lutheran Church and Board members are invited to attend; that he <br />wanted to congratulate the following students who are Commended National Merit <br />Scholars: Ann Doherty, Angela Gawron, Findley Griffiths, Laurie Hite, Jill <br />Salo, Melissa Wyatt; that John Parker, teacher at Schumann Elementary School, <br />has received a commendation from Governor Rudy Perpich for his leaders' 'p as <br />chairperson of the Community Transition Interagency Committee acknowledging his <br />orchestration of interagency collaboration between schools, human service <br />agencies and community members for the purpose of providing uninterrupted <br />service/support for persons with disabilites; that on October 24 there will be a <br />joint meeting of the Park Commissions of the communities that Orono School <br />District serves to foster communication and cooperation between the cities on <br />park usage; that about one-third of the Breakfast Surveys have been returned and <br />far less than 15% have indicated interest in having breakfast provided by <br />the schools; that the TIES Annual Meeting will be held on October 10; that he <br />was distributing copies of letters from Ron Gilbert regarding the initiatives <br />being implemented at Schumann Elementary; that on October 11 at 3:00 p.m. the <br />Facilities Conmlttee will meet with Ron Anderson regarding the final site plan <br />for the acreage across Old Crystal Bay Road; that depositions from administra-
