Administrator's Inforamtion Dated 8/22/90 <br />(Memo only) <br />ISSUE - Determine if Council will grant authority solicit to fill <br />in the vacancy caused by a call up of Patrol Officer who is a <br />member of a US Marine unit, <br />INTRODUCTION - In Attachment A it was noted that there maybe a <br />call up of one of the reservists. On Wednesday, November 21, <br />1990 the department was notified that Patrol Officer James <br />Dembouski's unit had been activated effective December 1, 1990. <br />This call up will be minimum of 90 days and probably extend for 6 <br />months. The department has explored alternatives to fill the <br />vacancy . <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />1. Utilize the current part time officer from 20 hours to 40 <br />hours. <br />2. Hire an additional temporary part time officer. <br />3. Hire a temporary officer for 40 hours for a minimum of 90 days <br />and possibly 6 months. <br />4. Not fill the vacancy, and credit the reduction in service. <br />5. Table. <br />RECOMMENDATION - It is recommended that Council grant staff the <br />authority to seek a qualified temporary officer for up to 40 <br />hours. <br />(The current part time officer is also a paramedic at North <br />Memorial and is not able to get a leave of absence.) <br />Once a candidate is available this would be brought to Council <br />for action. <br />PROPOSED MOTION - Moved by _, seconded by _, Council directs <br />staff to seek a qualified temporary officer for up to 40 hours <br />per week and that final action on employment be brought back to <br />Council.
